The Parliament of Uganda through the Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Among and her deputy Rt. Hon Thomas Tayebwa has bought 2024 Kabaka Birthday Run kits worth Shs50m. The Katikkiro of Buganda Owekitiibwa Charles Peter Mayiga received the Parliament’s contribution at Bulange- Mengo on Tuesday.
Several members of parliament and Buganda kingdom officials were in attendance with both parties promising to forge a way forward for collaborative partnership.
“Participating with us in the run in an official mannar. It marks a starting point of a collaborative partnership with the parliament of Uganda to promote the eradication of HIV/aids from Uganda,” remarked Katikkiro, who urged legislators to prioritise issues of health in their legislation.
The speaker, while presenting the dummy cheque, said that the contribution is a sign of solidarity. “We want to build a relationship with the kingdom of Buganda. We are not islands, we want to work with you especially that we are tenants. We want to work together with the kingdom for the good of this country,” she noted.
This year’s Kabaka Birthday Run is scheduled for this Sunday starting at Bulange-Mengo under the theme “Men are stars in the fight against HIV/AIDS to save the Girl Child” with over 100000 runners expected to take part.
