The 2024 Nile Special Rugby Championship returns for Match Day 9 after a brief Easter break. With the competition heating up, teams are fighting for playoff spots while others are fighting to avoid relegation.
First up, the KCB KOBs are set to clash with the Mongers in Entebbe. After suffering a setback in their previous game against league leaders Heathens, KOBs are determined to bounce back and reclaim their winning momentum. Currently placed fifth with 24 points, they face a tough challenge against the third-placed Mongers, who are hot on their heels with 26 points.
Meanwhile, the Impis are on a mission to secure vital points as they travel to Jinja to take on the Walukuba Barbarians. Sitting precariously in the 10th spot with just 7 points, the Impis are fighting tooth and nail to avoid relegation. Their opponents, the Barbarians, occupying the 8th position with 17 points, aim to thwart the Impis’ efforts and bolster their own standing in the league.
In another gripping encounter, the Pirates will be looking for redemption as they face off against the Rhinos at Legends. Still reeling from a humiliating 11-0 defeat to the Buffaloes in the previous game week, the Pirates, currently occupying the 4th position with 24 points, are determined to turn the tide in their favor. However, the Rhinos, standing at 7th place with 22 points, won’t make it easy for them.
Eyes will also be on the Eagles as they travel to Kyadondo to challenge the formidable Heathens, who lead the log with an impressive 33 points. Sitting in 9th place with 9 points, the Eagles are gearing up for a tough battle against the table-toppers, hoping to upset their dominance.
Meanwhile, Jinja Hippos will host the relegation-threatened Warriors at Dam Waters. With the Hippos holding firm in the second spot with 30 points, they will aim to secure a decisive victory to maintain their position in the league standings.
In a clash at Makerere, the bottom-of-the-league Rams will take on the Buffaloes, who are currently placed 6th with 22 points. Both teams will be eager to claim a much-needed win and improve their standings in the league.
In the Women’s League, the action continues as bottom-ranked Panthers host 3rd-placed Avengers at Legends, while 4th-placed Ewes welcome 6th-placed Nile Rapids at Makerere. Additionally, 2nd-placed Thunderbirds will square off against 5th-placed She Wolves at Kyadondo.
With the top 8 Men’s teams advancing to the quarter-finals, followed by the semi-finals and ultimately the one-off final to determine the Champion, the battle for rugby supremacy is set to reach fever pitch.
