Defending champions Vipers Sports Club squandered a chance to move to the top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League table after their goalless stalemate against the record 16-time champions, SC Villa, on Tuesday at Wankulukuku.
In a game of few chances, youngster Frank Katongole was named the Pilsner Man of the Match. It was a promising start for Richard Wasswa, who replaced Livingstone Mbabazi as Vipers’ head coach until the end of the season.
The tie, broadcast live on Sanyuka Prime, was attended by, among others, the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, who is a fan of SC Villa.
The Venoms could have displaced Kitara FC from the summit on a superior goal difference, but the result left them third with 42 points in 22 games, two points behind the advantaged Kitara-based side that has played a game more.
The Jogoos, meanwhile, also remained in 4th place with 41 points in 22 games.
Action resumes next week with two fixtures on Tuesday. UPDF will host Gaddafi in Bombo, while URA will welcome NEC at Kabaka Kyabaggu grounds in Wakiso – the new home of URA FC for the remainder of the season.
