The stage is set for a an exciting matchup in the 2023/24 Pepsi University Football League final as Nkumba University take on Uganda Christian University (UCU). The highly anticipated tie will take place this Saturday, April 20th at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
Nkumba University will be looking for their first University Football League title having come close in 2013 and 2016 but falling short to Kampala University.
UCU won the title in 2019 after a memorable 2-1 victory over St. Lawrence University in 2019 to retain their crown.
Coach Kintu Jimmy of Uganda Christian University is confident in his team’s readiness for the challenge, saying they have prepared adequately for the game.
“We’ve left no stone unturned in our preparations. Our team is ready for victory,” declared Coach Kintu.
Gagganga Geoffrey, the captain of Uganda Christian University, echoed his coach’s sentiments, saying they believe they will bring the title home.
“We’re ready to claim the title. Our determination knows no bounds,” he asserted.
On the other side, Muyiira Joseph, the sports tutor and team manager of Nkumba, shed light on the rigorous training the team has been through in preparation for the final.
“We’ve learned from our past experiences and have refined our strategies. We are going for the win,” he said.
In the third-place play-off, Kampala University will face MUBs on Friday at the Kavumba Recreation Center.
The ultimate winners of the title will take home a cash prize of UGX 5 million with the runners-up receiving UGX 3 million.
