In a fiercely fought encounter at St. Mary’s Stadium, Vipers and Maroons clashed in a highly charged match characterised by intensity and physicality, ultimately ending in a 1-1 draw.
Referee Turyamureeba Paul was kept busy with numerous interventions, yet no cards were shown as both teams fought for early control.
In the first half, scoring opportunities were scarce as Maroons managed only three shots on target, while Vipers struggled to test the opposition goalkeeper.
Despite Vipers enjoying slightly more possession at 54% compared to Maroons’ 46%, the score remained 0-0 at halftime.
The second half continued with the same energy as both teams exchanged crosses into the final third without finding the breakthrough.
Vipers made a crucial move in the 52nd minute, opting for a triple substitution, introducing Paul Patrick Mbowa, Mohamed Salem Ekbad, and Milton Kariisa.
Kariisa made an instant impact, scoring with his first touch in the 54th minute, assisted by Yunus Sentamu.
However, Maroons quickly responded, equalizing in the 63rd minute through Darius Ojok’s deflected shot from distance.
Despite both sides pressing for a winning goal, the match ended in a draw, with possession evenly split at 50/50.
Notably, Vipers managed only one shot on target throughout the game, while Maroons registered six.
With this draw, Vipers ascend to the top of the table with 46 points, level with BUL but holding a superior goal difference.
Meanwhile, Maroons find themselves in 7th place with 38 points.
