Kelvin Tah Barni emerged as the hero for NEC as he scored the lone goal of the game in the 55th minute, securing a vital 1-0 victory over BUL at the MTN Omondi Stadium.
However, the game was not without its drama. In the 57th minute, BUL’s coach, Abbey Kikomeko, found himself in hot water after being sent off the bench following an altercation with the centre referee, Lucky Kasalirwe.
With this important win, NEC lifted themselves from 5th position to 4th position in the league standings, accumulating 43 points from 25 matches. They now find themselves just 4 points behind the table-toppers, Kitara, who lead the pack with 47 points.
On the flip side, BUL’s defeat saw them drop from 2nd to 3rd position in the standings. They now sit on 46 points from 25 matches, trailing Kitara by a mere point.
Vipers, currently in second place with 46 points, have played a game less, making the title race even more exciting.
Looking ahead, NEC’s next league fixture is set to be a challenging one as they travel to Wankulukuku to take on Express on 1st May.
Meanwhile, BUL will be looking to bounce back from their defeat as they prepare to host the defending champions Vipers in a high-stakes match at the Mandela National Stadium on the same date.
