Tottenham Hotspur coach Ange Postecoglou didn’t mince words in expressing his frustration following Spurs’ 3-2 defeat to arch-rivals Arsenal in the North London Derby.

The atmosphere at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was electric, but it was the Gunners who silenced the home crowd with a commanding three-goal lead before halftime. Goals from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (own goal), Bukayo Saka, and Kai Havertz put Arsenal in control, leaving Tottenham with a mountain to climb.

Despite a valiant effort in the second half, with goals from Cristian Romero and Son Heung-min, Tottenham fell short, failing to secure the desired result in such a crucial fixture for the club and its supporters.

Speaking to reporters in the post-match press conference, Postecoglou expressed his disappointment, stressing the significance of the game and Tottenham’s desire to emerge victorious. However, he acknowledged the team’s shortcomings, particularly in defense, which contributed to their second consecutive defeat.

With Aston Villa holding a seven-point lead over Tottenham in the race for Champions League qualification, Postecoglou admitted that his side must win their remaining games to have any chance of staying in contention.

While praising Cristian Romero’s standout performance, Postecoglou emphasized the need for consistency and attention to detail across the entire squad to achieve their goals.

The Australian coach also criticized VAR, expressing frustration with decisions made remotely rather than by referees on the field. He lamented the lack of authority referees have in the stadium, stating his dissatisfaction with the current system despite its prevalence in modern football.

As Tottenham regroups and looks ahead to future fixtures, Postecoglou remains focused on addressing the team’s weaknesses and instilling a winning mentality to overcome challenges and achieve success in the remainder of the season.
