The Uganda Rugby Union (URU) concluded its 2024 Annual General Meeting on Sunday, April 28th, by passing a budget of UGX 12 billion. The budget will mainly go to enhancing the sport’s infrastructure, grassroots programs, and competitions.
Presiding over the assembly at Lugogo, Chairman of the National Council of Sports, Ambrose Tashobya, emphasized the importance of improved governance for ensuring transparency and sustained progress within Ugandan rugby. The passed budget will prioritize the support of national teams, organizing competitions, and implementing capacity-building initiatives.
Notably, Uganda is gearing up to host the 2023 and 2024 Rugby Africa Cup editions and a significant portion of the allocated funds will go to the preparations toward these continental events.
The AGM, which featured a comprehensive agenda, witnessed several key activities, including the ratification of five URU Trustees, review of the minutes from the previous year’s AGM, presentation of the URU Executive Report for 2023, and detailed discussions on the Union’s financial report and audit accounts for 2023.
Rugby continues to assert its position as one of Uganda’s fastest-growing sports, receiving substantial support from the National Council of Sports, thereby solidifying its status as one of the country’s top-funded disciplines.
