Maroons FC striker Fred Amaku and SC Villa head coach Dusan Stojanovic have won the best player and coach awards respectively for the months of March and April at the Pilsner Uganda Premier League awards held today at Kati Kati restaurant, Lugogo.
Amaku is one of the league’s top scorers this season having struck 12 times for the prisons side and scored a brace in his side’s 3-0 win over Busoga United and the opener against Express in their 2-0 home victory last month.
“We have been working as a team and it’s the team work which helped me pull off the performances I’ve had. Everyone in the team has been effective and has played their part,” he said.
He also reflected on his side’s away game tomorrow against relegation threatened Gaddafi FC.
“Playing against such teams is very hard because they are battling relegation but for us as a team, we will play our way and the mentality of the players will determine the result,” Amaku stated.
Serbian tactician Stojanovic whose SC Villa side has won four, drawn three and lost two of their last nine games to remain fourth on the log – four points off table leaders BUL with four games left was upbeat following his win.
Regarding his side’s mid week tie against Wakiso Giants, he expects a tough challenge.
“We are looking at only the next match and it’s one of the teams playing the best football in the league. They are not in the position where they should be with the quality they have and I expect a tough game against a good side,” Stojanovic noted.
The Pilsner monthly awards are aimed at recognizing outstanding players and coaches in the Startimes Uganda Premier League.
