The CAF African Football Schools Championship (ASFC) is making significant strides in empowering young and aspiring football coaches across Africa, with its innovative approach to talent identification and capacity building programs.
Now in its second successive season, the ASFC, spearheaded by CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, aims to invest in African youth and nurture future leaders through football. Beyond talent identification, the competition focuses on developing the coaching infrastructure at the grassroots level, addressing the shortage of qualified coaches.
During the Zonal Union qualifiers, a total of 210 aspiring coaches underwent official training and qualification through the CAF D License Coaching Course. This initiative is part of a wider capacity-building effort that includes programs for referees, reporters, medical officers, and safeguarding workshops.
As the highly anticipated Finals of the CAF African Schools Football Championship 2024 approach, scheduled for Zanzibar from 21st to 24th May, the focus on capacitating and upskilling young African coaches continues. This commitment underscores CAF’s relentless efforts to develop football across the continent.
The ASFC, featuring boys and girls under the age of 15, is a pioneering initiative in world football, reflecting Dr. Motsepe’s vision of Investing in the Youth of Africa. Winners of both the Boys’ and Girls’ competitions stand to receive significant prize money, courtesy of CAF’s partnership with the Motsepe Foundation, to support development projects within schools across Africa.
