Teen Cranes Beat Kampala Queens in Friendly Ahead of World Cup Qualifiers

The Uganda U17 Women’s National Team, also known as the Teen Cranes, emerged victorious with a 2-1 win over Kampala Queens FC in a friendly match. This match was part of their preparations to face Zambia in the U17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.

Kampala Queens took an early lead courtesy of a penalty converted by Shamirah Nalugya. However, Teen Cranes swiftly responded as Gift Nabukenya netted an equalizer with a well-executed goal.

The momentum shifted in favor of Teen Cranes when Kampala Queens’ Asia Nakibuuka scored an own goal, securing the lead and ultimately the win for the national team.

Following the match, head coach Sheryl Botes commended the team’s performance, highlighting their resilience and determination on the field. She emphasized the significance of the victory in boosting the team’s morale and confidence.

Coach Botes also emphasized the importance of the match as part of the team’s preparation for the upcoming FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers, where they are set to face Zambia. She stressed the need for continuous improvement and cohesion within the team as they strive for success in the qualifiers.

The friendly match served as a valuable opportunity for Teen Cranes to fine-tune their strategies, test their skills against competitive opposition, and enhance team cohesion ahead of the crucial qualifiers.

The first leg of the qualifiers is scheduled for May 12th at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka after which the return leg will take place on May 17th 2024, at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
