KCCA FC coach Abdallah Mubiru has downplayed any title hopes despite his team’s 1-0 home win against UPDF in the Startimes Uganda Premier League.
The Kasasiro Boys secured the win courtesy of a penalty converted by Muhammad Shaban Jagason in the 41st minute, after he was fouled in the box.
In his post-match conference, coach Mubiru stated that he was not entirely pleased with his team’s performance. He acknowledged that his opponents (UPDF FC) were aggressive throughout the match and that his men struggled to maintain possession, which forced them to be defensive in order to preserve the lead.
He attributed his team’s poor display to “relaxing” after their previous victory over SC Villa at the reopening of Namboole stadium on Labour Day.
When asked about KCCA FC’s title aspirations, with the team now just 4 points behind league leaders BUL FC, Mubiru was quick to dismiss the topic.
“We’re not in the title contention at all. We’re going to try to win our final matches till the final day and see what’s in store for us,” he said.
“Everything is in the hands of BUL FC at the moment,” he added.
However, Mubiru did have some positives to take from the match, commending his goalkeeper Mutwalib Mugolofa for keeping a clean sheet on his debut and displaying great technique.
He also attributed his team’s recent unbeaten run of 9 consecutive Premier League games (8 wins and 1 draw) to hard work and commitment of his players.
