The race for the 2023/24 StarTimes Uganda Premier League title has entered a crucial phase, as the leading contenders gear up for pivotal fixtures that could shape their title race destiny this weekend.
League leaders BUL will be aiming to bounce back from their heartbreaking Uganda Cup semi-final defeat against NEC when they host Gaddafi at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.
Goalkeeper Tom Ikara, who has kept an impressive three consecutive clean sheets in the league will be hoping to continue his run, and help BUL secure all three points to maintain their position at the summit.
Breathing down BUL’s neck are second-placed Vipers SC, who have the same number of points but trail their rivals on head-to-head record. The Venoms will be eager to do their part in claiming top spot when they travel to face sixth-placed NEC at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo, a fixture that will be broadcast live on Sanyuka Prime.
Vipers will take confidence from their emphatic 4-1 victory over NEC in the reverse fixture at Kitende, in which their Ghanaian foward Asiwome Fumador scored a hat-trick.
However, their recent drop in form, having dropped four points in their last four matches, could hand the hosts a glimmer of hope of causing an upset.
Elsewhere, URA will host 5th-placed KCCA in a tantalizing clash at Wankulukuku, while Villa make the trip to Bombo to take on UPDF.
At the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium, Wakiso Giants welcome Mbarara City, and 3rd-placed Kitara host Busoga United in Masindi. All games will kick off at 4:00pm on Saturday 11th May.
