St Mirren has confirmed the contract extension of Uganda Cranes defender Elvis Bwomono. The 25-year-old, who joined the club last December, has agreed to stay for an additional season, keeping him at the Paisley-based team until the summer of 2025.
Since making the switch from Icelandic club Vestmannaeyjar, Bwomono has quickly established himself as a key figure in St Mirren’s backline, already making 13 appearances for the club.
Speaking after putting pen to paper on his new deal, the Ugandan international expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome he has received.
“Since I came to the club in December, everyone has made me feel really welcome and a real part of it, so I’m happy to be staying here,” said Bwomono. “It’s probably the most enjoyable time I’ve had in football, both on and off the park. It’s a great squad, and I’m excited for next season.” He added.
St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson was full of praise for the defender, highlighting his potential for further development. “He’s still young, a Ugandan international as well, and we’re looking forward to developing him next season. I’m delighted he’s signed the extension,” said the former Tottenham Hotspur player.
Bwomono began his professional career at English fifth-tier club Southend United, where he made 132 appearances between 2017 and 2021. He then spent two seasons in Iceland with Vestmannaeyjar before making the move to Scotland.
The defender has 8 caps for the Uganda Cranes, with his most recent appearance coming in a 2-2 draw in an international friendly with Ghana in March.
