Asubo Ladies Relegated After Defeat to Kampala Queens

Asubo Ladies have become the first team to be relegated from the 2023/24 FUFA Women Super League season, just two years after earning promotion to the top flight.

The relegation was confirmed following a 3-1 defeat against Kampala Queens at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo on Sunday 12th May. Despite taking the lead in the 41st minute through a rebound from Miriam Ayo, Asubo Ladies were unable to hold on as Kampala Queens fought back to secure all three points.

Kampala Queens’ Catherine Nagadya equalized for the hosts in first-half added time, before Esther Namusoke and substitute Lukiya Namubiru added to the tally in the second half to complete the comeback.

This result confirms Asubo Ladies’ relegation back to the FUFA Women Elite League, because they are now 8 points behind 8th-placed Wakiso Hill WFC with two games to go. Asubo Ladies have had a very poor season in which they’ve garnered only two wins and four draws out of 16 games.

In their final two matches of the season. Asubo Ladies will play league leaders Kawempe Muslim, and then welcome 9th-placed and relegation-threatened UCU Lady Cardinals in the final game of the season.

On the other hand, Kampala Queens are now in a strong position to challenge for the league title, having moved within a single point of current leaders Kawempe Muslim, with just two games left to play. They will face fourth-placed She Maroons next weekend, before a potential title-deciding clash against Kawempe Muslim on the final day of the season.
