The race for promotion to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League is reaching a dramatic climax in the betPawa FUFA Big League, with just three games remaining.
Five teams are locked in a fierce battle for the three promotion spots, setting the stage for an exciting finish to the season .
League leaders Police suffered a blow yesterday, as they were held to a narrow 1-0 defeat away to 6th-placed Kiyinda Boys, allowing their closest rivals Lugazi to close the gap.
Police are still atop the table with 47 points, but second-placed Lugazi moved to within just 3 points of the leaders after a crucial 2-0 away victory over Kigezi HomeBoyz, in one of the other day’s matches.
Meanwhile, third-placed Mbale Heroes kept the pressure on with a 2-0 away win against Blacks Power, leaving them just 1 point behind Lugazi and 4 points behind Police.
Although fourth-placed Kataka did not play over the weekend, they maintained their position, but are being closely chased by fifth-placed Onduparaka, who secured a hard-fought 1-0 home victory against 8th-placed Booma, at the Greenlight Stadium in Arua.
With 41 points, Onduparaka are now just 1 point behind Kataka and 2 points behind third-placed Mbale Heroes. Onduparaka will travel to face leaders Police next Sunday 19th May, in what promises to be a very interesting clash between the giants.
In other fixtures, second placed Lugazi will host Young Elephants, whereas Mbale Heroes will host relegation-threated Kyetume. Fourth-placed Kataka will travel to Booma, hoping to secure a win that would keep their promotion hopes alive.
