The NIC Netball Team commenced their title defense in the East African Netball Club Championship with an impressive victory over Tanzania’s Zimamoto Netball Club. The match witnessed NIC’s commanding performance, culminating in a resounding 58-22 win.

From the onset, NIC exhibited their prowess, establishing an early lead and maintaining dominance throughout the game. The team asserted their superiority in the first quarter, seizing a substantial advantage with a scoreline of 10-04.

By halftime, NIC had solidified their position, widening the gap to 25-08. The trend continued into the third quarter, with NIC extending their lead to 40-13 before ultimately clinching the match with a final score of 58-22.

NIC’s formidable lineup featured seasoned players strategically positioned across the court. Aya Gloria anchored the defense at Goal Defense, while Margret Bagala commanded the midfield at Center.

Filbas Namulema and Zam Seera provided offensive support as Wing Attack and Wing Defense, respectively. Maureen Nankya and Shakira Nassara showcased their scoring prowess as Goal Shooter and Goal Attack, with Racheal Nanyonga guarding the net as Goal Keeper.

The team’s bench strength included Privas Kayeny, Nassimu Mutesi, Sandra Nambirige, and Victo Nantumbwe, ready to step in when needed.

Reflecting on the match, Mutesi Nassimu, the Vice Captain of NIC, acknowledged the team’s solid performance while highlighting the challenges faced on the court. She attributed what she called a ‘slightly below-par performance’ to the slippery court conditions, emphasizing the team’s determination to elevate their game as the tournament progresses.

“We are the defending champions and we’ll do everything to bring the title back home,” declared Mutesi after the game.

The East African Netball Club Championship serves as a platform for elite netball clubs from Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, and Zanzibar to compete for regional supremacy.
