Athletics Kenya (AK) has revealed the selection process for Kenyan athletes vying for a spot in the Paris Olympics, emphasizing stringent criteria to secure qualification.
According to AK, the top two performers at the national trials will secure automatic berths in the Olympic team, with a panel of selectors tasked with choosing the third athlete. However, all athletes must meet the stringent conditions outlined by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and World Athletics for qualification.
To secure a spot, athletes must meet the entry standards or world ranking quotas set by the IOC and World Athletics. Additionally, they must fulfill anti-doping requirements specific to category-A countries, including Kenya, which is listed among nations with the highest doping risk.
Athletes finishing in the top two at the trials but failing to meet the world ranking quota will be placed on standby until the qualifying window closes on June 30, 2024. This ensures that only athletes meeting the highest standards represent Kenya at the Olympics.
The announcement comes as athletes gear up for the national trials.
