SC Villa clinched the 2024 StarTimes Uganda Premier League title, ending a 20-year trophy drought by defeating NEC 2-0 at the MTN Omondi Stadium.
Entering the last game of the season, SC Villa led the league table, closely followed by BUL FC and Vipers, with all three teams separated by just one point, each having a chance to win the title.
The MTN Omondi Stadium was at full capacity, with fans eagerly anticipating the end of the two-decade wait for a championship. Charles Lwanga broke the deadlock in the 65th minute, igniting the crowd. Ten minutes later, Hakim Kiwanuka sealed the victory with a second goal, sending the fans into jubilation.
At full-time, the jubilant fans flooded the stadium to celebrate the historic win. The match was attended by notable dignitaries, including the Katikiro of Buganda, a fervent Villa supporter. Also present were former Uganda Cranes coach Micho Sredojevic, who led Villa to their last title in 2004, and former Uganda Cranes captain Denis Onyango, Villa’s goalkeeper during their previous triumph.
With this win, SC Villa extends their record of most league titles to 17 and will represent Uganda in the CAF Champions League.
