Kawempe Crowned FUFA Women Super League Champions

Kawempe Muslim Ladies clinched the FUFA Women Super League title for the 2023/2024 season after defeating Kampala Queens 2-0 in the final game held at Kawempe Muslim School.

The decisive match saw second-half goals from Allen Nasaazi and Agnes Nabukenya, securing the victory over their rivals, Kampala Queens, who failed to defend their title.

The win means Kawempe have now ended a six year trophy drought. It also marks their fifth league title, adding to their four consecutive wins from 2015 to 2018.

The match attracted notable attendance, including school legends like former captain Mariam Nakabugo, Crested Cranes captain Ruth Aturo, and Sandra Nabweteme, whose presence provided a significant morale boost for the team.

Head coach Ayub Khalifa expressed his pride in the team’s performance and the support from former players.

“Having legends like Mariam, Ruth, and Sandra with us was a big motivation. The team worked hard all season, and this victory is a testament to their dedication,” he said.

Agnes Nabukenya emerged as both the top scorer and Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the season, following in the footsteps of Shakirah Nyinagahirwa, who won the accolades last year.

Kawempe finished the season with 40 points from 18 games, four points ahead of Kampala Queens. They are now looking forward to the possibility of a season double as they take on Byafayo Queens in the quarterfinals of the FUFA Women’s Cup on Saturday, 1st June.
