This Wednesday, children from the Acholi Quarters, supported by the Aliguma Foundation, will have the opportunity of a lifetime as they serve as mascots during the Europa Conference League final.
Olympiacos will face Fiorentina in a highly anticipated match, with the winner earning a coveted spot in next season’s Europa League group stages.
The Aliguma Foundation, renowned for its work in transforming lives, is responsible for this initiative. The foundation has previously impacted many, including the writer of this report, who benefited from sports journalism training in Italy with AIPS Media. The contingent heading to Athens is led by Ritah Aliguma, the CEO of the foundation.
Among the mascots are 13-year-old footballer James Odongkara, 18-year-old Janet Zenah Arach, 10-year-old Christian Mirembe, who has special needs, and his 14-year-old brother Don Mirembe.
These children will not only serve as mascots but will also meet with board members of the UEFA Foundation for Children.
The trip is part of the foundation’s broader mission to inspire and provide opportunities for the less fortunate.
