The Boston Celtics clinched the NBA Eastern Conference championship on Monday, defeating the Indiana Pacers 105-102 in a thrilling Game 4. The victory completed a 4-0 series sweep, securing the Celtics a spot in the NBA Finals for the first time since 2022.
Jaylen Brown, awarded the Larry Bird Trophy as the series MVP, was instrumental in the Celtics’ success. Brown led the team with 29 points, making crucial plays in the decisive game. With the game tied at 102-102 in the final minutes, Brown not only made a critical jumper but also blocked Andrew Nembhard’s shot, preserving the Celtics’ chances.
In the closing moments, Brown found Derrick White, who sank a three-pointer with 45 seconds remaining to clinch the game. Despite a strong performance from Nembhard, who tallied 24 points, 10 assists, and six rebounds, the Pacers were unable to overcome the Celtics’ relentless pressure. Nembhard’s missed three-pointer with 33 seconds left sealed the Pacers’ fate.
Jayson Tatum also delivered a standout performance, contributing 26 points, 13 rebounds, and eight assists to the Celtics’ victory.
With this win, the Celtics advance to the NBA Finals, where they will face the winner of the Western Conference finals. Currently, the Dallas Mavericks hold a 3-0 lead over the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Reflecting on the team’s journey, Brown said, “It’s been nothing but a grind; we haven’t skipped no steps all season. We’ve got a bunch of great guys in this locker room – tough guys. Our coaching staff has been great, front office great, and now we want to take the next step.”
The Celtics, seeking their first NBA title since 2008, enter the finals determined to overcome their past defeats and claim the championship.
