Uganda Revenue Authority Football Club have provided an update on their player, Emmanuel Janan Okech, following a tragic road accident on Saturday night that claimed the lives of three individuals, including two children.
The accident occurred on the Lira-Soroti road when a minibus carrying players and fans of the Lango FUFA Drum team collided with a Fuso lorry. The Lango Province team, the 4th Champions of the FUFA Drum Edition, was returning to Lira City after a friendly match with Dokolo Select, part of the ongoing FUFA Drum trophy tour.
In a statement, URA addressed the condition of Okech, who was among those injured in the collision.
“Our player Emmanuel Janan Okech, who was involved in a serious accident with his Lango province team while traveling to Dokolo district for the ongoing FUFA Drum trophy parade on Saturday, 25th May, is out of danger after getting a deep cut on his left leg. He is now under treatment and close monitoring by doctors in Lira,” the statement read.
The accident also involved a Fuso truck transporting members of a marriage ceremony. The specific causes of the collision are currently under investigation by local authorities.
The FUFA Drum tournament, an initiative by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations, aims to promote regional talent and foster unity through football.
The Lango Province team’s participation in the friendly match and trophy tour was a continuation of their engagement with the community following their recent championship win.
