After years of extensive renovations, the day has finally come for Uganda’s historic Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium, also known as Hamz Stadium to reopen its doors to the public in a grand celebration.
The highly anticipated reopening ceremony will take place today, Saturday, June 1st, with the gates opening at 9am. Tickets for the event are going for UGX 50,000 for Ordinary, UGX 100,000 for VIP and UGX 150,000 for Executive. Tickets are available through the Next Ticket platform.

The stadium was established in 1926 on land donated by Daudi Chwa II, the then Kabaka of Buganda, and has undergone a remarkable transformation. The refurbished facility now boasts of an all-seater design, an artificial playing surface, netball courts, a basketball court, a boxing arena, a gym, and VIP executive boxes, among other impressive features.
The grand reopening is set to feature a variety of exciting sporting activities, including test football matches, boxing, netball matches, not forgetting l music concerts.
In the football matches, URA will take on Kitara at 4pm, followed by a highly anticipated clash between Express and SC Villa at 7pm under the stadium’s floodlights.
The boxing segment of the opening festivities, which will take place at the stadium’s Boxing Arena, will see Isaac Zebra Ssenyange face off against Kitaka Ibrahim, while Golola Moses will take on Umaru Semata.
Netball enthusiasts will also be treated to a thrilling matchup between the East Africa champions NIC, and the league holders Prisons Netball Club. Additionally, KCCA will face off against Makindye Weyonje, promising a day filled with netball action.
The musical lineup for the event is equally impressive, with performances from renowned artists such as Bebe Cool, Eddy Kenzo, Sheebah Karungi, David Lutalo, Fik Fameica, Rema Namakula, and Alien Skin, among others.
