Nakivubo Reopening: URA Stun Kitara As Football Rusumes at Nakivubo After Seven Years

After a seven-year wait, Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium also known as Nakivubo Stadium hosted a thrilling football match between URA and Kitara, the first of the two games lined up for the stadium’s grand reopening.

The game, officiated by an all-woman team led by center referee Shamirah Nabadda kicked off at 4pm, and it got off to a lightning-fast start, with URA’s Joseph Ssemujju finding the back of the net just 51 seconds into the game.

Ssemujju’s goal became the first-ever goal in the newly-renovated Nakivubo Stadium.

The tax collectors maintained their momentum, as Ivan Ahimbisibwe doubled the lead in the 21st minute, with an assist from Shariph Kimbowa. The first half ended 2-0 in favour of URA.

In the second half, Ahimbisibwe continued his impressive performance, adding another goal in the 48th minute, completing his brace and securing URA’s third goal of the match.

Shariph Kimbowa nearly made it 4-0, but his attempt was denied by Kitara goalkeeper Farouk Yawe in the 75th minute.

Kitara’s frustration was evident, and their woes were further compounded when midfielder Kabong Living was shown a red card in the 92nd minute.

The match ended with a convincing 3-0 victory for URA, who took home a grand prize of UGX 10 million for their stellar performance throughout the game.

After the match, URA’s midfielder Joshua Lubwama was awarded the MVP award by the Minister for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs, Hajjat Minsa Kabanda, for his outstanding contribution to his team’s success.
