The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has provided clarity on the timing of the upcoming World Cup qualifier matches for the Uganda Cranes, stating that the games have been scheduled in the evening to accommodate the working public.
According to FUFA EXCOM member Rogers Byamukama, the decision to host the matches at 7pm on both Friday, June 7th and Monday, June 10th, is to ensure that fans can attend the games after their regular work hours.
“The match between Uganda and Botswana will be happening at Namboole this Friday at 7pm since it is a working day. This timing allows people to work during the day and attend the match in the evening,” Byamukama explained.
The same reasoning applies to the Uganda Cranes’ match against Algeria, which is also scheduled for a 7pm kickoff on the following Monday, also a working day.
The decision to host these crucial World Cup qualifying games at the newly-renovated Namboole Stadium in the evening hours is a strategic move by FUFA to maximize fan attendance and support for the Uganda Cranes.
With the team hoping to secure their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, the return of home support at Namboole is seen as a crucial factor in their quest for success.
Uganda Cranes will be hosting two world cup qualifying games for the first time at the newly-renovated Namboole Stadium, and will be hoping to use the return of home support to secure themselves a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
