SC Villa goalkeeper Braddy Jeans Wokorach’s story is one of resilience, determination, and ultimately, triumph.
The young goalkeeper’s journey has been a rollercoaster ride, marked by heartbreak and success in equal measure.
Wokorach’s fortunes took a turn for the worse at the start of the season when he was rejected by NEC, a team he had helped gain promotion to the Uganda Premier League (UPL) for the first time in their history.
“It was a setback, and a period of lots of uncertainties, but I had to man up and move on to the next challenge,” Wokorach revealed in a touching interview.
However, Wokorach’s luck came when SC Villa came calling just two weeks later. “I was very excited, but had to calm down and perform,” the goalkeeper said.
At Villa, Wokorach was determined to make the most of his new opportunity, and he had to prove himself to coach Dusan Stojanovic, who had put his trust in him.
“Although I had little playing time in the first half of the season at Villa, I had to be patient. When the right moment came, I got a clean sheet against Express,” he recounted.
Wokorach’s moment of reckoning came during the match against BUL, where Villa were down to 10 men. The young goalkeeper stepped up, saving a penalty and making several crucial saves that earned him the Man of the Match award.
“In our match against BUL away, we were down to 10 men but I stepped up for the team and saved a penalty, had other crucial saves and later was the man of the match, and the rest is history,” Wokorach said, a sense of pride evident in his voice.
Wokorach’s stellar performance throughout the season, which included six clean sheets, eight wins, and three draws, helped SC Villa clinch their first UPL title in 20 years. He said that calmness and determination is what helped them to win the title.
“To level up and be a champion, you really need to stay calm and show pedigree, and that’s what we (Villa) did on the last day. We got the two goals that helped us win the game and the title,” he explained.
Wokorach then said that he’s looking forward to next season, and hopes to win more accolades with Villa, “It was a good start for me, i hope to carry on and have more great achievements with this great club.” He said.
Braddy Jeans Wokorach is one of the four goalkeepers selected by Uganda Cranes coach Paul Put for the upcoming world cup qualifiers. He will be aiming to leave a mark on the national team, if granted the chance.
