The Council of East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) has announced that Zanzibar will host the 2024 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup, marking the return of the prestigious tournament after a four-year break.
Scheduled from June 29 to July 14, 2024, the competition will be held at the Amaan Stadium and Pemba Municipal Stadium. Zanzibar recently hosted the CAF Africa Schools Football Championship and is now set to welcome another major football event.
In addition to the regular teams from the CECAFA zone, two guest teams, yet to be confirmed, will participate in the tournament.
Uganda, the defending champions, clinched the title in 2019 with a 3-0 victory over Eritrea, thanks to goals from Anukani Bright, Mustafa Kizza, and Joel Madondo.
