The Council for East and Central Africa Football (CECAFA) has unveiled a revamped tournament schedule for the CECAFA Kagame Cup and impressive lineup of participating teams.
In a significant announcement, CECAFA Executive Director John Auka Gecheo revealed that the club competition will now take place from July 6th to July 22nd, 2024, with the action set to unfold across Tanzania and Zanzibar.
The decision to reschedule the event, which was originally slated for July 20th to August 4th, was driven by the need to accommodate the busy calendar of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
This strategic move by the regional football governing body will allow the participating teams ample time to prepare for the upcoming 2024/2025 CAF Club competitions which will commence in August.
Another notable change with this year’s Kagame Cup is that it’ll feature three guest teams and this will add an extra layer of excitement to the tournament.
Headlining the guest teams is TP Mazembe from DRC, a five-time African champions, who will be joined by Nyasa Big Bullets from Malawi and Red Arrows FC from Zambia.
“Having top sides from DR Congo, Malawi and Zambia will also spice-up our Club competition and give our teams a real test,” said Gecheo.
Notably, the defending champions of the Kagame Cup, Express FC from Uganda, will be absent from this year’s edition, with the nation’s representation falling to Uganda Premier league champions SC Villa.
