StarTimes Uganda Premier League champions SC Villa and KJT Ladies FC are close to a partnership agreement, NBS Sport reliably understands.
After winning the league last season, the Jogoos are mandated to have a women’s team as per the CAF rules and regulations to participate in the CAF Champions League.
Villa last featured in the Champions League 20 years when they were eliminated from the first round of the qualifiers by eventual winners Al Ahly from Egypt.
The SUPL 17-time winners do not have their own women’s team in place just like all the other Ugandan men’s clubs.
Dusan Stojanovic’s team will therefore seek affiliation with the Kampala Women’s Regional League side.
However, KJT did not participate in the 2023/24 season due to financial constraints but are expected to bounce back for the 2024/25 campaign.
NBS Sport also understands that the SUPL record champions’ first attempt was to partner with the FUFA Women Super League champions Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC but deal did not materialize after both parties failed to agree on financial terms.
Meanwhile, the Stanbic Uganda Cup winners Kitara FC also agreed to partner with the Masindi based FUFA WSL side Lady Doves FC.
The Royals will represent Uganda in the 2024/25 CAF Confederation Cup and it is the first time they will be playing on the continent.
Villa and Kitara will start their 2024/25 CAF Interclub season in the Champions League and Confederation Preliminary Round, respectively between 16-18 August 2024.
Kampala Queens and Wakiso Hills WFC are the other women’s team affiliated to UPL sides in KCCA FC and Vipers SC, respectively.
