Bombers Captain Ukasha Matovu showcased his boxing prowess by defeating Edward Mukwaya in a dominant performance at the Lugogo Indoor Arena on Saturday evening. Matovu, representing COBAP Boxing Club, secured a unanimous 5-0 decision in the Welterweight contest against Kiwatule’s Mukwaya.
The event was graced by the presence of Makindye Division Mayor Ali Kasirye Mulyanyama and Uganda Boxing Federation President Moses Muhangi, adding to the night’s significance.
Known to his fans as “Lee,” Matovu aimed to knock out National Open silver medalist Mukwaya but ultimately secured a convincing victory through the judges’ unanimous decision. After his win, an elated Matovu expressed gratitude to Allah and thanked his fans for their support.
In other bouts, Owen Kibira from Lukanga Boxing Club delivered a swift knockout against Serugo Bashir from Zebra Boxing Club within seconds of the first round. This was Kibira’s debut fight of the season in the Light Middleweight Elite 71kg category, following his previous stint in the Welterweight 67kg division.
Mawanda Depark of East Coast, accompanied by Vian Music, achieved a 5-0 unanimous decision victory over Mutaasa Ashraf from Mutajjazi in the same weight class.
In the Heavyweight division, Aziz Ringo of Kololo edged out Baraka James with a 3-2 split decision.
Among the juniors, Mutwalib Mahad of Kololo, supported by the Somali community, triumphed over Mudathir Uthuman from Namugoona in a Pin Weight 46kg bout. Mutwalib expressed his joy in making his mother proud and thanked his community for their support.
In the Ladies category, Fatuma Nabikolo from Kololo Boxing Club lost to Sauda Muhammed of Police in a tightly contested Bantamweight 54kg fight, ending with a 4-3 split ruling by the judges. Earlier, Swalla Halima from Lukanga decisively defeated Kemisa Hamza of Mutajjazi in a minimum 48kg Youth Ladies contest.
The competition will continue with Week Four on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Club Obligato, promising more thrilling bouts and showcasing the talent within Uganda’s boxing community.
