MTN “Back to School” Tee of Tees edition: Raises Funds for St. Joseph’s Katabi Primary School

The quarterly MTN tee of tees was quite the spectacle this past weekend at the par-71 lakeside Entebbe Club and lived up to the billing.

Dubbed “Back to School,” the theme aimed to raise funds for the rehabilitation of St. Joseph’s Katabi Primary School in Entebbe Division A.

Horace Rwakabureete emerged as the overall winner with a 68 nett (countback) after seeing off a field of over 150 golfers.

The golfers dressed in their respective school uniforms during the prize giving ceremony on the 19th hole. The best-dressed golfers of the night, Jovia Tugume and Michael Monnie, each received a Ug.Shs 500,000 cash voucher, which they donated back to the fundraising cause.

“We held a very good championship at Entebbe Club. Along with our partner MTN Uganda, we came up with a very worthy cause of supporting St. Joseph’s Katabi Primary School. I thank the golfers who turned up and supported in any way they could,” remarked Serwano Walusimbi, Captain of Entebbe Club.

Other top performers included:
– Dr. Peter Apell, who scored 74 nett to win Group A on countback over Samson Agamile.
– Alexander Matisko, who took Group B with 68 nett, one shot better than Moses Ssebugwawo.
– Raymond Ekwamu, who needed a countback victory of 69 to win over Ronald Osekeny in Men’s Group C.

In the ladies’ categories:
– Rukia Nalwaoga won Group A with 75 nett, one shot better than Bridget Basiima.
– Peace Hellen won Group B with 69 nett, with Nice Janda as runner-up with 73 nett.

Isaac Mariera was the seniors (55 years and above) winner with 71 nett, and Darius Mugisha the guest winner with 69 nett. Dinah Acen Ongol won the ladies’ guest category with a 67 nett score.

For side-bets:
– Serwano Walusimbi struck the longest drive for the men, while Meron Kyomugisha won for the ladies.
– Tony Kisadha and Martha Babirye won the nearest-to-the-pin contest for men and ladies, respectively.

The MTN Back to School Golf Tournament aligns with MTN Group’s 30th anniversary, during which MTN is organizing a special edition of the flagship employee volunteerism program, 21 Days of Y’ello Care, extended to 30 days this year. The campaign, themed “Learn Today, Lead Tomorrow,” focuses on bridging the educational divide in underserved communities across MTN’s operational footprint.
