The Uganda Hockey Association National Hockey League saw intense competition over the weekend, with Weatherhead solidifying their lead at the top of the standings in the men’s division.
Weatherhead displayed their dominance with a crushing 10-0 victory against Makerere. This win not only extended their unbeaten streak but also boosted their goal difference, keeping them firmly in first place with 22 points.
Wananchi maintained their second position in the standings by defeating Thunders 10-1. Wananchi’s prolific scoring and solid defence have kept them hot on Weatherhead’s heels with 19 points.
Meanwhile, the Rockets and City Lions ended their match in a 2-2 draw. Both teams showed resilience, but the draw left Rockets in fifth place with 10 points and City Lions struggling near the bottom with 7 points.
Kampala routed KHC Originals with a 13-0 victory. This decisive win allowed Kampala to remain in third place with 18 points, keeping their championship hopes alive.
In another match, Badgers secured a 3-1 win against WHC Titans, helping them climb to fourth place with 14 points, while WHC Titans stayed at the bottom with just 3 points.
Jordan Mpiima of Kampala Hockey Club is the current top scorer having netted 14 goals so far.
Timothy Ntumba of Weatherhead, who has so far recorded 12 clean sheets, and Emmanuel Baguma of Wananchi, who achieved 11 clean sheets lead the goalkeeping department.
In the Women’s division, Kampala Hockey Club continued to dominate the league with a record of six wins and one draw, accumulating 16 points with an impressive goal difference of 33.
Close behind is Wananchi-HDF with 15 points, followed by Wananchi at 13 points. Deliverance CH+ and Weatherhead trail with 10 and 6 points respectively. The lower half of the standings features WHC Historicals with 5 points, Makerere with 1 point, and Thunders yet to score.
Janet Nakato of Wananchi-HDF leads the top scorers list with 13 goals. Juliet Babirye, also from Wananchi-HDF, follows with 8 goals.
