KIU Titans head coach Julius Lutwama anticipates a highly motivated City Oilers squad as they prepare for Friday’s crucial game.
According to coach Lutwama, the City Oilers, despite the recent departures of key players, are eager to prove they are still formidable contenders.
“The City Oilers have nothing to lose,” Lutwama remarked. “They will do everything in their power to change the narrative of what people think of them.”
Both the City Oilers and KIU Titans have maintained perfect records since the second round of the season began, setting the stage for a high-stakes encounter.
A victory for the KIU Titans, especially by a considerable margin, could potentially secure the tie-breaker and pave the way for them to finish as the number one seed if they continue their winning streak through the remaining games.
On the other hand, a win for the City Oilers would solidify their position as the top seed ahead of the playoffs.
The Titans have been bolstered by a five-game winning streak, with upcoming matches against the Kampala Rockets and JKL Dolphins to close out their regular season.
The City Oilers, who have also won their last five games, are looking to complete a double over the Titans, having defeated them in the first round.
They have three more games following the clash with KIU Titans, and victories in all their remaining matches would ensure their status as the top-seeded team heading into the playoffs.
The recent departure of KIU’s Zuri Campbell has been a notable development, with Coach Lutwama confirming his exit but remaining tight-lipped on the reasons behind it, stating only that it was due to technical decisions which are confidential, rather than financial issues.
Key players for the City Oilers such as Ivan Muhwezi, Titus Lual, Fayed, Ben Koma, and Moses will be crucial, alongside defensive stalwarts Walujjo and Kawumi.
As the Titans prepare to face this determined City Oilers team, Lutwama emphasized the need for his team to perform at their best.
“We shall have to do our best to get a result out of this game,” he stated.
The game will kick off at 9 PM on Friday, June 28th and will be live on NBS Sport and Afromobile.
