Ntugasaze Football Club emerged victorious over Proline in a FUFA Regional Promotional Playoffs return-leg clash, securing a well-deserved promotion to the FUFA Big League for the 2024/25 season.
The second leg of the tie, played at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo on Thursday, June 27th, saw Ntugasaze overcome a 2-1 deficit from the first leg to clinch a 2-0 win and advance on a 3-2 aggregate score.
Michael Kimera’s goal in first half added time and Calvin Peter Emayu’s strike in the 75th minute proved to be the difference-makers, as Ntungasaze demonstrated their resilience and comeback.
The result marks a significant achievement for the club, who were playing in the Buganda Regional League and were crowned champions, finishing top of the Katonga Group with an impressive tally of 54 points, 18 wins, 2 draws, and only 4 losses.
The architect behind Ntugasaze’s success is coach Felix Ssekabuza Kawooya, who has not only led the team to this remarkable promotion but also guided St. Julian High School, Gayaza to their maiden Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Associations Football title earlier this year.
Meanwhile, MYDA edged Busei FC 2-0 (3-1 on aggregate) in the return leg of their regional league promotional playoff played at Kongunga Primary School, to also clinch a spot in the upcoming FUFA Big League season.
Goals from Opira Innocent and Otim John Brian were enough to secure a 2024/25 Bjg League place for the Tororo-based side.
