Uganda’s Rugby Cranes emerged victorious in the first round of the Africa Rugby Sevens in Mauritius.
The team began their campaign with a narrow 22-17 win over Ivory Coast following it up with dominant performances, defeating Tunisia 43-0 and Burkina Faso 29-0.
In the quarter-finals, Uganda faced Ivory Coast once more. The match ended 10-10 in regular time, pushing the game into extra time where the Rugby Cranes secured a 15-10 victory.
The semi-final saw Uganda triumph over South Africa with a solid 12-0 win, demonstrating their defensive and offensive strengths.
The final pitted Uganda against Madagascar. The Rugby Cranes clinched the title with a 17-5 victory, solidifying their top position in the standings with 20 points after the first round.
Round two of the Africa Rugby Sevens will take place on July 6th and 7th. To secure their place in the 2025 HSBC Rugby Challenger Series, Uganda must reach the finals.
