Uganda Cranes defender Elio Carpradosi has been awarded for his outstanding performance during his first two appearances for the national team in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Carpradosi was named the player of the month for June in the football category at the Fortebet Real Stars Awards ceremony held at Lazio Restaurant in Kololo on Tuesday morning.
When Cranes head coach Paul Joseph Put summoned him, his name was new to the ears of Ugandans and he was a surprise package when he debuted right from the start against Botswana at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
Carpradosi was born in Uganda to Italian parents and when the calling came he accepted to represent the Pearl of Africa.
He left every Ugandan impressed with his commanding display in a 1-0 win over Botswana and he was equally impressive in the 2-1 defeat to African giants Algeria at Namboole.
Today, he is arguably one of the most popular players in the Uganda Cranes squad and to win the Real Stars award he beat competition from Paul Lule and Ronald Kaye from Kampala City and Ntugasaze, respectively.
Former Cricket Cranes captain Brian Masaba was the other popular figure who took an accolade home at the expense of his teammates Juma Miyaji and Cosmas Kyewuta.
Masaba captained the Cricket Cranes to their first-ever T20 Cricket World Cup in West Indies and USA orchestrating their single win at the tournament against Papua New Guinea.
He managed five wickets as Uganda finished fourth in Group C before relinquishing his captaincy and retiring from T20 Cricket.
On the other hand, Modesta Anyango was named June’s finest for her Most Valuable Player (MVP) performance in the FIBA U18 Zonal Qualifiers as the Junior Gazelles beat their neighbours Rwanda 82-52 at Lugogo Indoor Arena.
She stood out in a male-dominated category which also included the Junior Silverbacks pair of Joel Rugette and Gideon Ekukwai.
Meanwhile, Joshua Nnyanzi was the undisputed winner in the Boxing Category following his victory over Mubarak Sseguya in the National Heavyweight by unanimous decision at Club Obligato.
Spyder as he is commonly known shrugged off competition from Isaac Zebra Ssenyange and Salimat Tibesigwa.
The School Director of Mutyana Modern, Mr Godfrey Mbarire was also honoured for his contribution to the return of Masaza Cup in 2004 while serving as the Chief of Ssingo.
Each winner took home an accolade and a monetary package courtesy of the Real Stars Awards sponsors Fortebet and Jude Color Solutions.
