Kitara Sign Striker Fred Amaku from Maroons

Uganda Cup champions Kitara Football Club have signed of striker Fred Amaku on a one-year deal from Maroons.

The forward, who put pen to paper, yesterday July 3rd, joins the Royals as a free agent after his contract with the Luzira-based side expired.

After an impressive impressive campaign with Maroons in last season’s StarTimes Uganda Premier League, Amaku attracted interest from reigning league champions SC Villa, but the two parties failed to agree on personal terms.

The 28-year-old has been a consistent performer for Maroons since joining them from Busoga United in 2019, and he was the club’s top scorer last season with 12 goals, just 5 behind top scorer Muhammad Shaban.

Amaku’s arrival bolsters Kitara’s attacking options, which already includes the likes of Jude Ssemugabi and Denis Omedi, who after an impressive season with the Royals, where he scored 15 goals, is already attracting interest from other clubs.

These acquisition is part of the club’s strategy to strengthen their squad ahead of the upcoming season and their continental adventure.

Kitara head coach Brian Ssenyondo while talking to NBS Sport yesterday, explained the clubs strategy behind their new signings saying, “We are recruiting new players based on our performance analysis. We are also looking to add younger players, aiming to bring in two or three new talents,”

The Hoima-based outfit is preparing for their maiden continental campaign in the CAF Confederation Cup, having won the Uganda Cup last season.

Amaku’s experience and goal-scoring prowess will be crucial as Kitara aims to make a strong impression on the African stage.

Kitara has already been active in the transfer market, also securing the signings of David Ndihabwe from Maroons and Ronald Otti from BUL.
