In the bustling heart of Kampala, a young Stephen Muhire Sunday’s journey began with a passion for fitness that would eventually propel him onto the global stage.
Born on January 5th, 1997, Stephen’s earliest days were marked by an unwavering determination to excel in sports and fitness.
From his days at Ibanda Kibubura Integrated Primary School in Uganda, where he sat for his Primary Leaving Examination, to attending Newcastle High School, Stephen’s ambition and dedication was evident from the start.
Stephen’s career as a fitness trainer and athlete blossomed through various roles in Kampala. He served as a freelance Personal Strength & Conditioning Coach for Uganda’s national sports teams, including football, cricket, rugby, and swimming, from January 2020 to December 2022.
His expertise further flourished during his tenure as a Senior Gym Instructor and Strength & Conditioning Coach at Fitness Junction Gym & Spa, where he honed his skills with the Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC) from December 2019 to December 2021.
Driven by a thirst for knowledge and excellence, Stephen pursued advanced certifications abroad. He attained a Level 4 Coach in Strength and Conditioning from the Strength and Conditioning Academy (SSA) in Macclesfield, England, UK, enhancing his proficiency in fitness coaching.
His passion for football led him to pursue a Master in Football Strength & Conditioning from the Football Science Institute (FSI), Granada, Spain, a journey he embarked on through online courses starting in July 2022.
Stephen’s achievements in the competitive arena are equally impressive. He represented Uganda with pride at international bodybuilding competitions, clinching notable titles such as 1st Place in the Mister Africa International Championship in the 2023/24 season under the Mr. Body of Africa 2023/24 and the Mr. Central Uganda 2022/23 Body Building Championship in the Men’s category during 2022/23.
His prowess extended to the Beach Body category of the Mr. Africa International competitions in 2021 and 2022, showcasing his versatility and dedication to physical excellence.
On April 15, 2023, Stephen made history as the first Ugandan athlete to compete in the Germany Hyrox World Championships held in Koln.
This global fitness extravaganza tested his skills in running, rowing, and a series of rigorous strength and conditioning challenges.
His participation not only highlighted his personal athletic prowess but also underscored Uganda’s emerging presence in the international sports arena.
