The 2024 CECAFA Kagame Club Championship kicked off on Tuesday with Uganda Cranes midfielder Taddeo Lwanga and Uganda Premier League champions SC Villa in action.
Games played in Group C at Azam Complex Chamazi in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania saw Lwanga victorious whilst Villa were held.
Rwanda Premier League champions APR where Ugandan Lwanga plies his trade edged Tanzanian side Singida Black Stars SC 1-0 thanks to Victor Mbaoma’s lone goal in the 22nd minute.
In an earlier game, Uganda’s top-flight record champions had settled for a goalless stalemate with South Sudan outfit El Merriekh Bentui.
After the first round of fixtures in Group C, APR lead proceedings, Villa and El Merriekh follow suit while Singida occupy the base.
Action in Group C will resume on Friday, July 12 with Villa playing Singida whereas APR will take on El Merriekh.
Meanwhile, Costal Union, Gift Ali’s new home beat Dekedaha FC 1-0 which was the same scoreline as Ali Wadinyala FC edged JKU SC in Group A.
Group B will begin on Wednesday with games between Al Hilal versus Djibouti Telecom and Gor Mahia against Red Arrows.
