Eight talented Ugandan junior riders have garnered significant recognition for their abilities and are set to compete in the prestigious FIM World Junior Motorsports Championship in the Netherlands this weekend.
The team, which includes five riders in the MX 65cc category—Johnson Semakula, Katende Ramazan, Mubiru Isaac, Rary Sekamwa Ashraf, Mbabazi Junior, and Isaac Mitima—and three riders in the MX 85cc category, was officially flagged off at the National Council of Sports on Wednesday, July 10, 2024.
Akena Jimmy, the Federation of Motorsport Club’s President and his deputy Arthur Blick Junior, officiated the send-off.
Arthur Blick Junior highlighted the significance of this opportunity for the development of motorsports in Uganda.
“It is a great honour to be able to flag off our team of Uganda to represent Uganda on the world stage. This is a testament to the development of motorsports within our community. I honor these young people who are going to be carrying our flag before the world and I wish them the best of luck as they proceed to compete with other young people,” said Blick.
Among the young athletes is Isaac Mitima, a 12-year-old rider in the MX 65cc category and a primary six student, who is participating in the championship for the first time.
“I’m so grateful that I get to travel with my team to the Netherlands and ride with the best superstars in the world,” said Isaac.
The FIM World Junior Motorsports Championship is one of the biggest events in the world of motorsports and promises to be an exciting competition, showcasing top talent from around the globe.
