StarTimes Uganda Premier League champions SC Villa have registered their first win at the ongoing CECAFA Kagame Club Championship in Tanzania.

Villa defeated hosts Singida Black Stars SC 3-1 at the Azam Complex on Friday evening.

The victory came after they had shared spoils in a goalless draw with South Sudan side El Merriekh Bentui in the opener on Tuesday.

New signing Najib Yiga opened the scoring at the stroke of halftime for the Jogoos to take a slim advantage at the break.

Dusan Stojanovic’s men returned for the second half hungry for more and doubled their advantage in the 52nd minute through a penalty converted by the UPL Player of the Season Patrick Kakande after Reagan Mpande was fouled in the forbidden area.

Soon after, Mpande also had his name on the scoreboard in the 56th minute assisted by David Owori.

Singida skipper Marouf Tchakeh pulled one back at the hour mark and the remainder of the game did not yield more goals.

Villa now lead proceedings in Group C with four points and will be hoping that APR FC falter against El Merriekh later tonight to remain top.

They will return to action on Monday, July 15 in the top of the group decider against Uganda Cranes midfielder Taddeo Lwanga’s APR.

How SC Villa Lined Up

Jean Braddy Wokorach (GK), Arnold Odong, Diego Missi Ssemugera, Elvis Ngonde, David Owori, Patrick Kakande, Cyrus Kibande, Reagan Mpande, Denis Omony Kaka, Isaac Mpagi, Najib Yiga

Substitutes
