Uganda will be represented by Kitara in the 2024/25 CAF Confederation Cup starting with the first round of the preliminary round.

To earn the ticket, the Royals won the 2023/24 Stanbic Uganda Cup after edging NEC 1-0 in the final.

Brian Ssenyondo’s team have now been drawn against a yet-to-be-determined opponent from Libya.

Besides Kitara, Uganda will have a couple of other representatives in the competition. These will be in the form of players who play for different clubs around the continent.

Fresh from being named in the Ethiopia Premier League team of the 2023/24 season, Geoffrey Wasswa’s Ethiopian Coffee will battle Kenya’s Police FC in the first round.

After leaving Proline FC during the ongoing transfer window, Gift Ali joined Tanzanian outfit Coastal Union FC who will also feature in the first round of the Confederation Cup.

Coast Union were matched with FC Bravos from Angola.

Similarly, Eric Ssenjobe’s new team Police FC of Rwanda will start from this stage against Algeria’s CS Constantine.

The former Uganda Police, KCCA, and URA defender will be joined by his compatriot Ashraf Mandela who travelled to Rwanda on Friday evening to complete his move.

If Wasswa and his team Ethiopian Coffee go past Police he will face his fellow countryman Travis Jamal Mutyaba who plays for Zamalek from Egypt.

Zamalek are the holders of the competition and were therefore exempted from the first round and will begin their title defence in the second round.

Additionally, Uganda Cranes forward Steven Mukwala will also enter the competition in the second round with his new employer Simba SC.

The Reds of Msimbazi were also given a bye to the second round and await the winner between Zanzibar’s Uhamiaji FC and a yet-to-be-determined side from Libya.

Meanwhile, qualification for the second round will land Kitara a date against Egyptian outfit El Masry, a side that was also exempted from the first round.

Should Ali’s Costal Union triumph over Bravos, they will pair with Democratic Republic of Congo’s FC Lupopo in the second round. The latter were also handed a bye from the first round.

Victory against Constantine will see Ssenjobe and Mandela playing the winner between Ghana’s Nsoatreman FC and TP Elect Sport from Chad.

The first legs of the first round will be played between August 16 and 18, 2024 while the second legs will happen between August 23 and 25, 2024.

On the other hand, the first leg encounters of the second round will take place between September 13 and 15, 2024 with the second leg being held between September 20 and 22, 2024.
