SC Villa head coach Dusan Stojanovic says he is impressed with how his team reacted to a goalless stalemate against South Sudan side El Merriekh Bentui in their opening game of the 2024 CECAFA Kagame Club Championship at the Azam Complex on Tuesday.
The StarTimes Uganda Premier League champions responded by beating Tanzanian outfit Singida Black Stars SC 3-1 on the same grounds on Friday.
“We started at a low pace in the opening match and now the team is gaining momentum,” the Serbian was quoted by the CECAFA website after the game.
“I am very happy with the way my players expressed themselves in the win against Singida Black Stars,” he added.
“I am also glad that the matches in this tournament are preparing the team ahead of the new season,” he concluded.
Najib Yiga, Patrick Kakande, and Reagan Mpande gave Stojanovic’s team a comfortable 3-0 lead inside an hour before Marouf Tchakeh pulled a goal back for his captained side.
In the second position with four points, Villa will need to beat their former player Taddeo Lwanga’s APR FC on Monday to finish top of Group C and reach the semifinals.
After the CECAFA tournament, the first round of the CAF Champions League preliminary round and the Uganda Super 8 await the UPL record champions before they start their league title defence.
