StarTimes Uganda Premier League champions, SC Villa commenced their CECAFA Kagame Club Championship with a goalless draw against South Sudan’s El Merriekh Bentui on Tuesday.
The Jogoos followed it up with a convincing 3-1 victory over Tanzanian side Singida Black Stars SC on Friday.
New signing Najib Yiga was one of the players on the scoresheet and he faced the club’s cameras in the aftermath of the game and reflected on the team’s performance so far and what he expects going forward.
“We tried all we could in the first game to get the win but it wasn’t enough for the three points that is why we managed only a point,” Yiga opened up.
“With the guidance of the managers we were able to review the game and realised that we had to improve in certain areas to win the next game,” he explained.
“That is how we managed to play better today (yesterday) and registered the victory and it means a lot because it has brightened our chances of going to the next stage,” he added.
“We shall also build on this result to ensure that we win the last game of the group,” he concluded.
Yiga broke the deadlock in time added on of the first half and was named man of the match while Patrick Kakande and Reagan Mpande were also on the scoresheet.
Kakande converted a penalty after Mpande was fouled in the box before the latter scored in the 56th. Singida captain Marouf Tchakeh scored his side’s consolation goal.
Dusan Stojanovic’s men are positioned second in Group C with four points after two games and will face leaders APR in a top of the group decider on Monday.
Monday’s bout will see Uganda Cranes midfielder Taddeo Lwanga come up against his former club where he was captain in 2017.
