The Makerere College School Alumni Football League (MACOS League) saw a historic and thrilling conclusion yesterday at the MUBS pitch in Nakawa, with Grandeza FC being crowned champions of Season 4.
Grandeza FC, the newest addition to the league, hailing from the Class of 2022, delivered a stunning performance by defeating the Legends with a solid 2-0 victory.
This triumph is particularly sweet for Grandeza, given their less-than-stellar performance last year. Fans and players celebrated this remarkable turnaround loudly, boldly, and proudly.
The match itself was a masterclass in football. Grandeza’s defense was impenetrable, and their offensive play was relentless.
The first goal set the tone, but it was the second goal—a magnificent free-kick by Nick Mugerwa—that sealed their victory and left the crowd in awe. Mugerwa’s performance throughout the league earned him the MVP title.
Reflecting on the victory, Nick Mugerwa, the captain of Grandeza FC, said, “I can finally rest and watch the sun rise on a beautiful universe. Thanks to everyone at Grandeza, this is for you!”
Grandeza FC’s road to the finals was no less impressive, having dispatched the Invincibles, who came in third overall, with a 3-0 win in the semifinals. The awards ceremony celebrated individual and team excellence.
Mutyaba Isaac was named the best goalkeeper, while Luke Lwanga from the Citizens team clinched the top scorer title with an astounding 20 goals throughout the league.
The MACOS League’s success this season was amplified by the sponsorship of Guinness. The iconic brand, known for its perfect pairing with football, brought a new level of excitement to the league.
“Guinness and football share a long-standing relationship, and we are thrilled to sponsor the MACOS League. This season has been incredible, and we can’t wait to be back next season with even more excitement,” shared Patience Aguti, the Project Manager at Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL).
The celebration didn’t end with the final whistle. An epic after-party, featuring performances by The Mith, Navio, and DJ Kasbaby, kept the football fans and guests entertained well into the late evening.
