Kathleen Noble Arrives in Paris Ahead of Olympics

Uganda’s first Olympic rower, Kathleen Noble, has arrived in Paris ahead of her competition on July 27, 2024, in the Women’s Single Scull event.

Noble, who made history as the first Ugandan to qualify for rowing at the Olympics, expressed her excitement and gratitude for the opportunity and the support she has received from Ugandans.

In an interview on the World Rowing YouTube channel, Noble shared her background, noting that her parents, originally from Ireland, relocated to Uganda 31 years ago.

“I was born in Uganda. My parents moved to Uganda about 31 years ago, and I spent my whole childhood in Uganda through secondary school,” she said.

Noble discussed her love for rowing on Lake Victoria, one of the largest lakes in the world, despite its coastal challenges. She also expressed her appreciation for the support she has received from Ugandans, calling it a huge honor to be the first Ugandan competing in this sport.

Despite facing challenges, Noble is enthusiastic about investing in rowing in Uganda and has been inspired by the passion of her fellow athletes. However, she emphasized the need for improved equipment, infrastructure, and opportunities for athletes in Uganda.

As she prepares for her competition, Noble revealed that this will be her last Olympics. “I am really excited to start a family. I’m 29 and I think I am ready for a new season in my life. This has been a good season, and I’m ready for a new one,” she added.
