Young Africans SC, the reigning champions of the Tanzania Premier League, faced a 2-1 defeat against German Bundesliga side FC Augsburg in an international pre-season friendly match held on Saturday in South Africa.
The match, played at Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga province, saw both teams creating early scoring opportunities. Young Africans’ goalkeeper Digual Diarra made a crucial save against Henri Koudosso, while FC Augsburg’s goalkeeper denied Azi Ki.
FC Augsburg’s persistent efforts paid off in the 37th minute when Mads Pederson scored the opening goal. Despite Young Africans SC’s new signing, Clatous Chama, nearly equalizing after halftime, FC Augsburg’s goalkeeper remained steadfast.
Philipe Tietz extended FC Augsburg’s lead in the 80th minute, making it 2-0. However, DR international Jean Baleke managed to pull one back for Young Africans SC with a well-timed header past Daniel Klein.
The Tanzanian giants are scheduled to play two more matches in South Africa against TS Galaxy and Kaizer Chiefs as part of the Toyota Cup.
