With just three days until the 2024 Paris Olympics, NBS Sport has officially announced that it will broadcast the games live, providing viewers with coverage of the world’s biggest sporting spectacle that will take place between July 26 to August 11.
Joseph Kigozi, General Manager of NBS Sport confirmed that the channel will be the official broadcaster of the sporting event.
“NBS Sport will be the official Ugandan broadcaster of the 2024 Olympics in Paris,” he said.
Kigozi, who is also the Deputy Group CEO of Next Media noted that this will be the second time the company will broadcast the Olympics, having successfully covered the 2020 Tokyo Games in 2021.
He highlighted NBS Sport’s successful broadcast of the 2024 Euro Championship and its current coverage of the Rugby Africa Cup as a testament to the channel’s commitment to high-quality sports broadcasting.
“We have had very good products in the last couple of months. We did manage to broadcast the Euro championship which is the second-most watched football tournament in the world,” he stated.
According to Kigozi, NBS Sport will be committed to providing great production and comprehensive coverage of all Ugandan athletes participating in the Olympics.
“NBS Sport is committed to bringing you live pictures but most importantly following Ugandan athletes who are going to be taking part in the Olympics.”
“I can promise you that every time the Uganda flag is being raised and everytime the Uganda anthem will be sung, we’ll be there to follow the Ugandan contingent in Paris 2024,” he promised.
The General Manager emphasised the importance of this year’s Olympics for Uganda, particularly given the nation’s recent successes in athletics.
“This years Olympics are special to Ugandans because, in recent years, Uganda has been the most talked-about country when it comes to track and field, especially long-distance running,” he stated.
The excitement comes after Uganda’s impressive performance at the Tokyo Olympics, where the country won four medals, including Gold for Peruth Chemutai in the Women’s 3000 m steeplechase and Gold for Joshua Cheptegei in the Men’s 5000 m.
Kigozi expressed confidence in the Ugandan representing the country at this years Olympics saying, “I expect a spectacular performance from the Uganda team. Our athletes are well-trained, motivated, injury-free, and ready to shine on the world stage.”
“Infact our athletes are the best in the world. They’ve set all the records so every Ugandan out there, every company out there is interested in seeing how team Uganda performs at the Olympics.” Kigozi added.
The 2024 Olympics, hosted in Paris, will offer a unique cultural experience.
Kigozi pointed out the deep connections between France and Africa saying, “There’s a lot of culture around the French and Africa. Many athletes have come from France.”
Kigozi called upon viewers to catch the Olympics on StarTimes and Afromobile for convenience and easy accessibility.
“You can catch it on StarTimes, and also on Afromobile wherever you’ll be, making it very convenient for you to watch.
He also promised seamless HD broadcasts, minute-by-minute updates, and in-depth analysis of the events saying, “What we are promising is great analysis and minute-by-minute updates.”
NBS Sport will also broadcast both the opening and closing ceremonies of the competition, which showcase the diverse cultures of the participating nations.
A total of 25 athletes will represent Uganda in four sports displines. The contingent will include a diverse array of talent, with 21 runners, a rower, a cyclist, and two swimmers set to take the world stage.
