Uganda Revenue Authority Football Club have acquired the Kawempe Muslim Ladies Junior team.
This move marks the establishment of URA’s first-ever women’s team and is in line with the FUFA club licensing rules for the 2024/25 season.
The announcement on July 29th at URA headquarters in Nakawa featured CEO Allan Munaaba, who stated, “We at URA Football Club have officially launched the first-ever URA women’s football club through the acquisition of the Kawempe Muslim Ladies Junior team to promote gender equality and provide equal employment opportunities for young girls” (URA website).
During its first year, the team will be called URA-Kawempe Muslim Ladies Junior team, with a planned renaming to URA Women’s Football Club.
Munaaba underlined the club’s commitment to encouraging girls in sports and generating future job opportunities.
Also present at the event were Kawempe Muslim Ladies team head coach Ayub Khalifah, club chairperson Wabwiire Hakim Tabu, and three players, all wearing jerseys with both club logos.
Coach Ayub Khalifah stated, “Achieving this milestone with such a big club/brand is a significant step for us, and we promise to give our best,” (URA website).
URA will assume immediate management of the team, with home games set to be played at the Kawempe Muslim playground.
